General Guidelines for merchandising bulk natural foods…

Natural — Combo Corner
  • A bulk natural food section has been proven more successful when either located next to produce, or in the natural foods area “store within a store”
  • Group products logically by category, alternating color and texture as much as possible
  • Provide labeling that is colorful, uniform and informative
  • The following complimentary items should be merchandised together
    • Nuts next to Trail Mixes
    • Dried Fruits next to Trail Mixes
    • Beans and Soups next to each other
    • Cereal and Candy next to each other
  • For a good visual impact and competitive selection, supermarkets should start out with the Top 75 –100 SKU’s
    • 100 SKU’s will typically fit in a 16 foot linear section
    Natural — NL Twin Tier
  • A ‘Twin Tier’ merchandising system (two rows of gravity feed over scoop bins or base boxes) allows you to get more SKU’s in less floor space, along with offering more products in a “Hands-Free” system.
