Planning A Store

Getting Started

Designing a bulk department can be a fun, and rewarding experience. The relationship our salesperson builds with you will go beyond the sale of the bin and fixture. It’s a partnership and one in which we look forward to your success. In fact, your success is our success.

We want to give you a sense of possible options and customization with these bulk sets and layouts. You will be able to more efficiently design the store you want. For that reason, we have provided photos and diagrams for visual assistance.

Be Committed

Freshness, cleanliness, value, and variety draw customers to the bulk department, and from there they spend money, and lots of it. Retailers who have made the investment have been happy with their merchandising decision to offer bulk foods.

Plan on allocating 8 feet (2.4 meters) minimally, for approx. 50 products to 16 feet (5.0 meters) ideally, or 100 products to get started. Our fixtures are sold in varying heights, widths, depths and configurations to accommodate any space and merchandising need. Here are a few of our most popular layout options: Stand Alone, Inline, “L” Shaped, Island, and Back to Back. Fixtures can also be made to stand on their own, or to sit on countertops. You can do one or all of these.

Selecting Your Bins

The products you want to sell will vary by location, and some products will sell better than others given customer preferences and availability. We encourage you to visit with one of the many natural foods / candy / coffee and tea suppliers, who can help you with your bulk product selection. This quick reference guide to help you decide what type of bin you should select based on general product type. These are guidelines, not absolutes, based on our experience.

Selecting Your Fixtures

Fixture selection is a personal choice. Factors such as aesthetics, budget, value, return on investment, architectural and space limitations all play a role in which fixture many of our customers select. With the many options we have available, there are a number of ways to configure the fixtures to maximize your retail merchandising experience.

We have over 50,000 Computer-Aided Drawings of fixture designs, which should tell you that no two projects are alike. However, there are many features which every project will share such as bin style selected, fixture configuration, material used, accessories added, color, height, and width. There are no right or wrong answers and this is where your salesperson becomes an invaluable resource.

What’s your preference? An all natural, wood look and feel, or steel trimmed with laminates? Twin tier or all scoop configuration? Graphics and lighting? Elegant or simplistic? If you can dream it, we can build it.
